Protective Film Is Trapped Under Exposed-Duct Joints or Hangers

VERIFY FIRST

Fast answer

Confirm when the protective film must be removed and inspect every joint, hanger contact, seam, label, and accessory before final tightening or closeout.

What to check

  1. Check the finish schedule and manufacturer instructions.
  2. Remove film from surfaces that will be trapped or sealed when required.
  3. Protect the exposed finish during remaining work.
  4. Inspect for adhesive residue, scratches, and hidden film tabs.

Do not

Do not leave film trapped under hangers, gaskets, sealant, screws, or joints, and do not peel it early without a protection plan.

Ask the foreman

“The exposed duct still has protective film where the hanger and next joint will trap it. I checked the finish requirement. Do you want those areas stripped now and the remaining film left for protection?”

Why it matters

Trapped film becomes visible debris, interferes with joints and finishes, and may be impossible to remove cleanly later.
