Exterior Insulation Jacket Is Punctured at a Support

VERIFY FIRST

Fast answer

Repair the weather and vapor-control layer with the approved exterior system and correct the support contact that caused the puncture.

What to check

  1. Inspect the jacket above, below, and around the support.
  2. Check for wet insulation, sharp edges, compression, and movement.
  3. Verify saddles, standoffs, boots, or isolation pieces shown in the detail.
  4. Confirm the approved patch and seal sequence.

Do not

Do not cover the hole with ordinary foil tape while leaving the sharp contact in place.

Ask the foreman

“The exterior jacket is punctured where it bears on the support, and the insulation is compressed. I checked the adjacent supports. Do you want the support interface corrected before the approved jacket repair?”

Why it matters

A patch will fail again if the support continues to cut or compress the exterior insulation system.
