Vertical Branch Weight Is Twisting the Riser Main

VERIFY FIRST

Fast answer

Check whether the branch and fitting have the approved independent support and whether the connection is transferring weight or torque into the riser.

What to check

  1. Measure the riser and branch alignment before and after the connection.
  2. Inspect the branch support location and fitting deformation.
  3. Check connector engagement and reinforcement.
  4. Verify the approved correction before adding or moving supports.

Do not

Do not pull the branch into place with the joint hardware or use the riser connection as the branch support.

Ask the foreman

“The branch is supported, but after connection the riser fitting rotated and the main is no longer plumb. I checked the branch hanger and connection. Do you want the branch support or fitting position corrected first?”

Why it matters

Branch weight and leverage can twist the riser, open joints, deform fittings, and shift the run out of plumb.
