Riser Section Is Not Secure Before the Next Joint Starts
STOP AND ASKFast answer
Verify that the installed section is supported by the approved permanent or temporary support before releasing handling equipment or starting the next joint. Connection hardware is not a substitute for riser support.
What to check
- Identify the approved riser support location and detail.
- Confirm the section is seated, restrained, and stable.
- Check whether the next section changes balance or load path.
- Verify who authorizes release of the handling equipment.
Do not
Do not depend on corner bolts, screws, cleats, or a partly made joint to hold a vertical section.
Ask the foreman
“This riser section is aligned and the joint is started, but I do not see the permanent support complete yet. Can you confirm the approved temporary hold and when the handling equipment can be released?”
Why it matters
A vertical section that is not positively supported can slip, drop, rack the joint, or overload adjacent duct.
