Some louver splice parts are meant to guide alignment, not clamp two frames into one rigid piece. Locking them with screws can stop thermal movement and stress the frame.
Check the submittal to see whether the key is structural, sliding, or alignment-only. Remove improper fasteners from sliding interfaces and reinstall the factory expansion hardware as designed.
Use this as training guidance. Foreman direction, approved drawings, project specs, manufacturer instructions, employer safety policy, and AHJ/code requirements always control the final answer.
