Plan the Final Connection Before the Run Becomes an Impossible Last Joint

VERIFY

Fast answer

Choose the final connection while there is still room to move, align, and install the joint hardware. The last opening in a run needs an insertion path and tool access, not just matching dimensions.

What to check

  1. Identify which sections are fixed and which can still move.
  2. Check the insertion path for the final straight, fitting, or equipment connection.
  3. Confirm access for cleats, screws, bolts, clamps, gasket, and sealing.
  4. Leave a removable or adjustable section where the project method allows and verify it with the foreman.

Do not

Do not install both sides tight to fixed work and assume the final measured piece can somehow be forced between them.

Ask the foreman

“Both ends of this run will be fixed after the next section. I checked the tool access and insertion path—do you want the final connection here or closer to the equipment where we still have movement?”

Why it matters

Planning the close prevents field-cutting a good fitting, forcing a joint, or tearing down finished work to create room.
