A hanger holds duct up. A brace or restraint controls duct movement. Do not move diagonal braces or restraint hardware because they are “in the way.”

Field checklist

Look for diagonal metal members, cables, clamps, anchors, or restraint labels.
Do not loosen or relocate the brace.
Photo it and ask what is support versus what is restraint.

Is this diagonal piece a seismic/sway brace or just part of the hanger? I do not want to move something engineered.

Do not modify or copy bracing/rigging from another area just because it looks similar.
