CONTENT GAP BATCH 15 · Retail & Grocery Installation
Fitting Becomes Trapped Above Refrigerated Cases
VERIFY FIRSTFast answer
Stop installing adjacent straight duct until the fitting insertion path and future case/service restrictions are understood. A fitting needs room to enter and rotate, not only space in its final position.
What to check
- Check the fitting swing, heel, throat, connector projection, and tool access.
- Identify what is fixed: cases, refrigeration piping, sprinkler, lights, signs, ceiling framing, or installed duct.
- Check whether the fitting must be installed before nearby straight sections or case work.
- Verify whether a removable spool, split fitting, or alternate final joint is approved.
Do not
Do not flatten, notch, or cut the fitting because it fits only after being damaged.
Ask the foreman
“This elbow fits above the case in its final position, but it cannot rotate past the refrigeration piping after the straight run is installed. Do you want the sequence changed or the fitting remade as a split section?”
Why it matters
Retail fixtures and case piping can remove the installation envelope long before the ceiling appears crowded.
