Condensation Appears Above Freezer or Refrigerated Aisles

VERIFY FIRST

Fast answer

Find the cold surface and the break in the thermal or vapor-control system before patching the visible drip. Check insulation continuity, vapor-barrier damage, air leakage, compressed insulation, wet material, and local humidity conditions.

What to check

  1. Trace the moisture to the exact duct, collar, damper, access frame, support, or penetration.
  2. Inspect insulation thickness and continuity around fittings and hardware.
  3. Check vapor-barrier seams, punctures, crushed areas, and wet insulation.
  4. Check for duct leakage or water intrusion before repairing the jacket.

Do not

Do not cover active sweating with more tape or insulation until the source is identified.

Ask the foreman

“The sweating is concentrated at this collar above the freezer aisle. I checked the nearby wrap and found a vapor-barrier break plus exposed metal at the fasteners. Do you want the insulation repair reviewed before we close the area?”

Why it matters

Cold-zone condensation can damage ceilings, products, finishes, and insulation while the actual failure remains hidden.
