CONTENT GAP BATCH 14 · Temporary Support, Handling & Protection
Temporary Support While an Awkward Fitting Is Being Connected
VERIFYFast answer
Use temporary support only to hold the fitting stable and near final position while the crew aligns the connection and installs the permanent support. Keep the fitting from hanging on the duct skin or joint.
What to check
- Identify the fitting’s weight, balance point, and movement path before lifting it into place.
- Set temporary support where it will not crush the fitting, block the joint, or become trapped.
- Keep hands clear of closing joints and confirm who is controlling each end.
- Install and verify the permanent supports before removing temporary support.
Do not
Do not let a temporary support become the permanent hanger by accident, and do not leave the fitting hanging from the adjoining duct or connector.
Ask the foreman
“This offset is stable on temporary support and the joints are aligned. Where do you want the permanent support before we release it?”
Why it matters
Awkward fittings can roll, swing, deform, or load the adjoining duct while the crew is trying to connect them.
