Temporary Cover or Support Was Left Behind Inside the Duct

VERIFY

Fast answer

Before closing the final opening, verify that temporary covers, blocks, braces, straps, tools, rags, plastic, and loose hardware have been removed and the interior is clean.

What to check

  1. Trace every temporary item installed during staging, lifting, protection, and alignment.
  2. Inspect the section from accessible openings before the final joint closes.
  3. Remove debris without pushing it farther into the system.
  4. Document completion where project cleanliness or closeout procedures require it.

Do not

Do not assume the next crew will remove temporary material, and do not close a section that has not been visually checked.

Ask the foreman

“Before we close this last access, I found a wood block and plastic cover left from the lift. Can we do a final interior check on the whole section?”

Why it matters

Temporary material can obstruct airflow, damage equipment, create noise, contaminate spaces, and become inaccessible after close-in.
