Branch Weight Is Pulling the Main Out of Square
VERIFYFast answer
Support the branch so its weight and leverage are not twisting the tap, collar, or main duct. Re-square the main before final tightening and sealing.
What to check
- Check whether the branch has independent support at the required location.
- Look for a main duct panel, joint, tap, or hanger being pulled out of alignment.
- Temporarily support and realign the branch without forcing the connection.
- Verify permanent hanger and reinforcement requirements from the project details.
Do not
Do not use screws, sealant, the tap collar, or the main duct skin as the branch support.
Ask the foreman
“The branch is hanging on the tap and pulling the main corner down. I can support and re-square it now—where do you want the branch hanger before we finish the joint?”
Why it matters
Branch leverage can deform the main, open a joint, damage a tap, and leave the run visibly crooked.
