Prevent Round Duct From Rolling in the Laydown Area

VERIFY

Fast answer

Stabilize round and spiral duct so it cannot roll when straps are removed, material is shifted, or the floor is bumped or sloped.

What to check

  1. Choose a flat laydown area outside travel paths.
  2. Use the approved rack, cradle, dunnage, or chocking method for the material and site.
  3. Release delivery restraints only after the stack is stable.
  4. Restabilize the remaining pieces every time one is removed.

Do not

Do not trust a round stack because it looks still, and do not use loose scraps that can kick out as the only restraint.

Ask the foreman

“This spiral stack is on a slight slope and we are about to cut the delivery band. What approved blocking or rack do you want before we release it?”

Why it matters

A stationary round section can become a moving load the moment the stack changes.
