Move Long Duct Through Doors and Corridors Without Deforming It

VERIFY

Fast answer

Measure the travel path and plan the rotation before moving long duct through doors, corridors, elevators, shafts, or finished areas.

What to check

  1. Measure the tight opening, turn, ceiling height, and landing area.
  2. Identify the duct’s strong handling points and any vulnerable flange, reinforcement, liner, or coating.
  3. Assign one person to call the movement and keep the path clear.
  4. Use protection for finished surfaces and stop before forcing the piece into a bend it cannot make.

Do not

Do not bow, rack, or crush duct to make it pass through an opening without approval.

Ask the foreman

“I measured the door and turn; this section will not clear without rotating it before the threshold. Do you want it moved as-is, split, or brought in by another route?”

Why it matters

The shortest route is not useful if it damages the duct or the building.
