When the Print Doesn't Match Field
Use when the plan, shop drawing, ceiling, structure, or actual installed work does not line up.
Dimensions, duct route, equipment location, ceiling height, wall location, or another trade does not match the drawing you are using.
Stop if
- Ask whenever the mismatch changes duct size, location, support, access, coordination, ceiling, damper, equipment connection, or inspection requirement.
Watch out
- Do not install from an old print if newer info exists.
- Do not guess which drawing wins.
- Do not tell the foreman 'it doesn't fit' without photos/measurements.
- Do not keep installing if the mismatch affects multiple downstream pieces.
Check
- Drawing revision/date
- Field condition
- Measurement from grid/reference
- Marked-up conflict photo
Steps
- Confirm you are looking at the latest drawing before calling it a mismatch.
- Check revision/date and whether you are using plan, shop drawing, coordination drawing, or old print.
- Verify gridline/room/area/floor and exact location.
- Measure the field condition from a real reference point.
- Compare the drawing condition to the installed field condition.
- Take marked-up photo or sketch with dimensions.
- Ask the foreman how to proceed; do not create your own field fix.
