What does it mean when the print says "field verify" for a dimension?

It means the architect or engineer knows the building layout could vary from the original digital files. Do not order or pre-fabricate that specific piece of ductwork based on the drawing scale. You must physically walk to that spot in the building, pull a physical tape measurement across the actual structural space, and build to fit the real field condition.
