Stop cutting and use the right snip direction/tool or replace the connector. A chewed connector edge can keep the joint from seating and can create a sharp hazard.
Fix damaged connector metal before assembly. Bent, crushed, or burred edges usually get worse when forced.
Ask when cutting changes connector length, corner finish, or the part may need shop replacement.
Watch out
Do not force damaged connector metal and then hide it with sealant.
Check
Straighten, trim, deburr, or replace the damaged piece
Test fit before driving
Steps

Cut from the side that gives control.
Deburr if allowed.
Replace the connector if the edge is too damaged.
Ask before cutting a connector that affects fit-up.
