Smearing mastic over bad mechanical connection
Mastic does not fix bad metal fit-up. Fix the joint, gasket, fasteners, or alignment first, then seal.
Stop if
- This connection is not mechanically tight. Do you want it fixed before I put mastic on it?
Watch out
- Do not use mastic like glue to hold together bad sheet metal.
Check
- Check whether the joint is seated.
- Look for missing screws, clips, drives, or gasket.
- Correct the mechanical issue if directed.
- Clean the joint.
- Seal after the connection is tight and stable.
