Shop Tags and Piece Marks: Verify the Piece Before It Leaves the Laydown Area
Match the piece mark, system, floor or zone, connector type, and spool or shop drawing before moving the piece into the install sequence.
Stop if
- I matched this piece mark to the current spool and system, but the floor/zone tag is unclear. Where do you want it held until we verify it?
Watch out
- Do not identify a piece by size alone or assume a nearby stack belongs to the same run.
Check
- Read every visible tag and mark before removing or covering it.
- Cross-check the piece against the current spool, shop drawing, or foreman's laydown plan.
- Confirm system, area, orientation, connector type, liner or insulation, and nearby fittings.
- Mark unclear or damaged tags and hold the piece out of the install line until it is identified.
