Respecting Gravity Systems
Gravity drain systems usually cannot move around duct as easily as pressure piping or conduit.
Stop if
- This conflict involves a gravity drain. Do we verify slope/elevation and approved reroute before changing duct?
Watch out
- Do not tell plumbing to “just move it” if it is a gravity system needing slope.
Check
- Confirm drain slope, invert/elevation, ceiling height, and coordination priority before rerouting.
Steps
- Identify whether this is normal ductwork or a controlled/special condition.
- Confirm drain slope, invert/elevation, ceiling height, and coordination priority before rerouting.
- Get the current drawing/detail/spec/submittal before changing routing, material, access, or support.
- Bring photos, location, and what you checked to the foreman before closing or covering the work.
