Replacing diffusers or grilles in an old ceiling
Treat remodel finish work differently than new construction: check what is existing, reused, replaced, damaged, or supposed to match.
Stop if
- This is a remodel area with existing devices/tiles. Are we matching, reusing, replacing, or documenting the old finish before I install?
Watch out
- Do not cut brittle old ceiling tile, reuse damaged devices, or mix new/old visible devices without direction.
Check
- Confirm new/reuse/replace scope
- Check existing device size neck finish and airflow direction
- Inspect old tile/grid before cutting
- Document existing damage
- Ask before mixing new and old visible devices
