Pre-TAB Walk Checklist
Use this before TAB/balance starts so obvious install problems do not turn into startup drama.
TAB is scheduled soon, systems are being started, or a foreman asks for a final airflow/access readiness walk.
Watch out
- Do not wait for TAB to discover blocked dampers, missing labels, kinked flex, or inaccessible VAVs.
- Do not randomly adjust dampers without TAB/foreman direction.
- Do not close ceiling over unknown access points.
Check
- Device/tag photo
- Access/damper photo
- Problem close-up
- Wide room/grid reference
- Punch list screenshot/markup
Steps
- Walk by system and room. Make a punch list before TAB finds it for you.
- Confirm every diffuser, grille, register, VAV, damper, coil, and access panel is installed, tagged, and reachable.
- Check flex for kinks, sag, excess length, crushed liner, and bad support.
- Check branch takeoffs, taps, transitions, and fittings for obvious restrictions or wrong orientation.
- Check damper handles and test/balance access are not hidden by ceiling, insulation, or walls.
- Check visible joints, collars, boots, access doors, and openings for leakage or missing seal.
- Record not-ready items by room/grid/system with a wide photo and close-up.
Say this to your foreman
TAB starts [date]. Do you want me to run this pre-TAB walk and send a room-by-room punch list before they arrive?
