Pre-Seismic Inspection Walk
Use before seismic/restraint inspection so braces are visible, locatable, and ready.
Seismic brace, sway brace, or equipment-restraint inspection is scheduled soon.
Stop if
- Ask when a brace location, anchor, angle, structural attachment, tag, or access point is unclear.
Watch out
- Do not wait for the inspector to find hidden braces.
- Do not move, retighten, or re-angle braces without qualified/project direction.
- Do not cover or insulate brace/anchor details before required inspection.
Check
- Wide brace location
- Close anchor/clamp
- Tag/detail callout
- Blocked/corroded condition
Steps
- Walk each brace by room/grid/system and make inspection items visible before the inspector arrives.
- List each brace/restraint location by room/grid/system.
- Check brace direction/angle, clamps, anchors, hardware, and structural attachment visibility.
- Confirm labels/tags and detail references are readable/locatable.
- Look for corrosion, missing tags, blocked access, wrong attachments, or covered brace points.
- Photograph every questionable condition before cover or inspection.
