Not understanding difference between hanger and brace
A hanger holds duct up. A brace or restraint controls duct movement. Do not move diagonal braces or restraint hardware because they are “in the way.”
Stop if
- Is this diagonal piece a seismic/sway brace or just part of the hanger? I do not want to move something engineered.
Watch out
- Do not modify or copy bracing/rigging from another area just because it looks similar.
Check
- Look for diagonal metal members, cables, clamps, anchors, or restraint labels.
- Do not loosen or relocate the brace.
- Photo it and ask what is support versus what is restraint.
