Missing to subtract throat/heel of elbow in layout
The throat and heel of an elbow take up real space in the run. If you laid out centerline-to-centerline without accounting for elbow depth, the straight sections may not fit.
What fitting dimension or takeoff should I subtract for this elbow?
Watch out
Do not force oversized straight sections to fit by springing the elbows into position.
Check
Identify the elbow type and size: radius, square throat, vaned, or job-specific fitting.
Measure or verify the actual installed depth of the elbow from connection face to connection face.
Compare that to the straight sections already cut and identify whether they are too long or too short.
If the straight sections are too long, re-cut only after marking the corrected dimension.
If they are too short, use the short-cut recovery route before adding a sketchy filler.

Say this to your foreman
I forgot to account for the elbow depth in my layout. The straight sections are [too long / too short] by about . Do you want me to re-cut them or use a fitting/field recovery?
