Layout and Measuring Tools: Verify Before Trusting the Mark
Check the tool, reference, and zero point before transferring a field measurement to duct or structure.
Stop if
- This measurement is from [reference] to [face/centerline]. Are we using the same benchmark and finished-surface reference before I lay it out?
Watch out
- Do not mix centerline, outside, inside, and finished-face dimensions or trust a dropped laser without checking it.
Check
- Confirm tape hook and blade condition
- Check laser or level against a known reference
- Use the same control line as the crew
- Mark what face or centerline the number represents
- Re-measure before cutting or drilling
