Check the tool, reference, and zero point before transferring a field measurement to duct or structure.

Stop if

• This measurement is from [reference] to [face/centerline]. Are we using the same benchmark and finished-surface reference before I lay it out?

Watch out

• Do not mix centerline, outside, inside, and finished-face dimensions or trust a dropped laser without checking it.

Check

• Confirm tape hook and blade condition
• Check laser or level against a known reference
• Use the same control line as the crew
• Mark what face or centerline the number represents
• Re-measure before cutting or drilling
