Cross-reference the metal thickness gauge of your fabricated sleeve against the factory damper manual parameters. Most UL listings state that a fire damper sleeve must be constructed of at least 16-gauge steel if the damper uses regular field breakaway joints, or a minimum of 18-gauge steel for smaller single-section units. Check that the sleeve length does not extend out more than 6 inches past the finished face of the rated wall assembly line.
