Hand Placement at a Closing Duct Joint: Keep Fingers Out of the Pinch Line
Use handles, clamps, blocks, or controlled hand positions that keep fingers out of the closing flange, slip, collar, and support points. Stop if the crew cannot see or control the pinch line.
Stop if We have a pinch point at the backside corner and cannot see both hands from the lifts. Can we reset the support and close this in smaller steps?
Watch out Do not use fingers as alignment pins or reach between sections while another person, lift, jack, or rigging is moving them.
Check Name who is moving each section and who is calling stop before the joint closes. Identify flange corners, cleats, collars, hangers, and nearby structure that can trap a hand. Use tools or temporary spacing to hold the gap while alignment is checked. Move in small controlled steps and stop before anyone reaches into a loaded joint.
