Use reliable references: structural gridlines, column lines, control lines, finished floor benchmarks, approved layout marks, and shop drawing dimensions. Avoid measuring from crooked drywall, temporary framing, loose material, or random walls unless directed.
Good layout starts from good control points. Bad reference points create clean-looking work in the wrong place.
