Round elbows made of gore sections can rotate to fit different orientations - but only before they are screwed and sealed. If the elbow is in the wrong orientation for the available space, identify how far off it is before forcing or refitting.
Do not fasten an elbow until the next piece lines up.
Check
Before screwing: rotate the elbow to the correct orientation by hand. Round gore elbows can usually be adjusted at the upstream and downstream connections within their fit-up range.
Check what is blocking the current orientation - beam, another trade, insulation clearance, access, or layout preference. The reason affects whether a simple rotation works or a different fitting is needed.
If the elbow is already screwed and sealed in the wrong orientation: remove the screws, back it out, rotate, re-seat, re-fasten, and re-seal per project standard.
Do not leave it in the wrong orientation and force the next section of pipe to compensate.
If rotating to the correct orientation creates a clearance problem with another trade: photograph it and bring it to the foreman as a coordination issue - it may need an RFI or field modification approval.

Say this to your foreman
This round elbow is oriented [describe direction] but needs to be [describe correct direction] to clear [beam / pipe / clearance issue]. I have not screwed it yet. Do you want me to rotate it and re-fit, or is there a coordination call to make first?
