There is no universal answer, but gravity systems, structure, access, code, and approved coordination drawings usually drive the decision. HVAC duct is large, but sometimes it can offset. Other times the duct cannot move without redesign.
Do not fight another trade blind. Bring location, drawing sheet, elevation, photos, and a workable option to your foreman.
