Control Sharp Sheet-Metal Edges During Cutting and Handling
Plan the cut so the sheet and the scrap stay controlled. Deburr or protect exposed edges before the piece is carried, staged, or left in a work area.
Watch out
- Do not let a cookie, long strip, or sharp offcut drop into duct, ceiling grid, equipment, or onto people below.
Check
- Wear the task-required hand and eye protection
- Support both the finished piece and the scrap
- Keep hands out of the cut path and off blind edges
- Leave a controlled tab when needed so the cookie does not drop
- Deburr, fold, hem, cap, or clearly protect the edge as the job requires
