A required access door, damper, panel, or service space is blocked. What do I do?
Treat blocked access as a hold point, especially around dampers, VAVs, controls, cleanouts, filters, coils, valves, and anything inspectable or serviceable. Document it and ask before covering or working around it.
Document the blocked access and hold before covering or improvising around it.
Do not hide blocked access behind tile, insulation, drywall, paint, or “we can probably reach it later.”

Steps
Identify what needs access and why: inspection, reset, service, TAB, cleaning, or code.
Take a wide photo showing obstruction and grid/room.
Take a close photo showing the blocked door/panel/handle/label.
Check if the obstruction is framing, ceiling grid, pipe, conduit, insulation, wall, or another trade.
Ask before shifting equipment, cutting access, or letting it be covered.
Say this to your foreman
The required access at [location] is blocked by [framing/pipe/grid/insulation]. It affects [damper/service/TAB/cleanout]. Do you want me to hold, get the trade moved, or create an approved access plan?
