Can a vertical spiral riser be supported by wall straps on studs

3rd YearRound, Spiral & Flat Oval DuctStop and get direction

A vertical spiral riser needs structural load support. Stop stacking weight on slip joints or light wall straps.

Plain-English answer

Vertical duct risers carry their own dead weight down the stack. If that load is sitting on slip joints or light studs, the lower fittings can crush and the run can slide.

Hold the riser, brace it safely, and install the approved riser clamp/angle support at structural slab/steel points. Do not keep adding sections until the load path is owned by structure.

Ask Foreman

The vertical spiral riser at [shaft/location] is slipping and crushing the lower fittings. I stopped stacking sections. Do you want structural riser clamps/angles installed at the slab line?
