Why do I need 5 to 10 duct diameters of straight duct downstream of the air handler
4th YearForeman Skills & Jobsite ProductivityCheck first
Air leaving a high-velocity fan wheel spins in a turbulent, high-velocity spiral corkscrew pattern. * It requires roughly 5 to 10 linear duct diameters of straight, uniform pipe space for that chaotic airflow to stabilize out into a smooth, linear lamina flow stream. If the air layout drops into an elbow too early, it creates massive system effect pressure drops, killing the fan efficiency and creating severe balancing issues.
