Why is the blast gate slide jammed after installation?

3rd YearYELLOW · Check FirstIndustrial Exhaust / Blast Gates

Short answer

If the blast gate housing ovalizes the pipe, reinforce the connection so the gate stays square and the pipe stays round.

Field answer

Thin spiral wall can distort when a heavy blast gate or clamp loads one area. Once the barrel goes oval, the internal gate slide may bind.

Loosen the housing, check pipe roundness, and add the approved sleeve/reinforcing ring/backing collar or replace the connection with a heavier fitting section before retightening.

What to check first

Do not do this

Do not keep tightening a blast gate clamp until the pipe becomes oval.

Why it matters

A jammed gate can block airflow, ruin dust collection control, and damage the duct barrel.

Ask foreman

The blast gate at [location] is binding because the housing is distorting the spiral pipe. I loosened/checked the clamp area. Do you want an internal sleeve or heavier connection collar added?
