Is galvanized spiral duct okay for natatorium or chlorine pool air?

Field answer

A natatorium is not normal office air. Warm, humid, chemically treated air can attack galvanized coating and seams quickly.

Document the corrosion, check the material spec, and replace or reroute with the project-approved corrosion-resistant duct material, fasteners, sealant, and hangers. This is a spec/material issue, not a cosmetic cleanup.

What to check first

• Look for white rust, red rust, pitting, seam staining, or coating failure.
• Confirm whether the duct is in supply, return, exhaust, or pool chemical air.
• Check material schedule for stainless/aluminum/coated systems.
• Verify fasteners and hangers are compatible too.
• Hold cover until material direction is confirmed.

Why it matters

Wrong material in pool air can fail fast, leak, contaminate the system, and cause expensive replacement.
