No. Ceiling grid wire is not duct support. Remove the tie and hang the duct independently from approved structure.

Answer

Acoustic ceiling grid wire is for the ceiling system, not mechanical support. Tying duct to it can pull the grid out of level or bring ceiling tile down.

Remove the unapproved support, protect the ceiling grid, and install independent hanger wire/rod from approved structure per the project support detail.

Field checks

Ask foreman

The duct/flex at [location] is tied to acoustic ceiling grid wire. I stopped using the grid for support. Do you want independent supports dropped from structure before ceiling close?

Do not do this

Do not hang mechanical ductwork from ceiling grid wires.

Why this matters

Grid wires are not rated for duct load and can create ceiling failure, inspection issues, and unsafe overhead conditions.

Final direction still comes from approved drawings, specs, manufacturer instructions, employer policy, foreman/detailer direction, structural/seismic details, and AHJ/code requirements.
