When the Route Is Blocked
Use when something physically blocks the duct where the print says it should go.
What this covers
Sprinkler, pipe, cable tray, beam, wall, ceiling, light, access panel, or equipment blocks the duct route.
How to use this playbook
- Name the obstruction and measure the conflict before asking for help.
- Identify the system and duct tag/size.
- Identify what blocks it and whether that item is installed per its own layout.
- Measure horizontal/vertical conflict and clearance needed.
- Check if access, damper, insulation, slope, or ceiling height is affected.
- Photo the conflict from two angles and include tape measure if possible.
- Report the conflict with facts, not frustration.

Warnings
- Do not cut, notch, move, or offset around the obstruction without direction.
- Do not blame another trade before checking latest drawings.
- Do not lower/raise duct without checking ceiling, access, and airflow impact.
- Do not make the problem disappear by hiding it.
Stop and ask
- Ask when any route option changes duct shape, size, elevation, access, support, fire/smoke damper location, or coordination with another trade.
