Measuring Field Guide

Measure it clean before the cut, hanger, opening, or order.

Most field confusion is secretly a measuring problem. Use this page to slow down, capture the right reference points, and ask with useful numbers instead of “it doesn’t fit.”

Measurement packet

Bring these before you ask.

1. LocationGrid, room, floor, elevation, drawing/revision, and photo angle.
2. SizeWidth × height, diameter, centerline, opening, rod drop, clearance.
3. ConflictWhat blocks it, what changed, what you verified, and what decision you need.
Do not guess

Red-zone measuring

Hold for direction when measuring affects structural attachment, seismic bracing, fire/smoke dampers, rated walls, grease duct, special exhaust, crane/lift work, or exposed/finished duct.
