Before you start
- Confirm the approved support detail, actual duct weight, support spacing, attachment substrate, hardware size, corrosion protection, and any insulation, seismic, vibration, or rooftop requirements before installation.
- Confirm wall substrate, bracket projection, cantilever load, anchor type, duct width, wall clearance, corrosion protection, and roll restraint.
- Verify the wall is structural and suitable for the anchor.
- Inspect brackets, welds, holes, and hardware.
Tools and materials
Approved wall brackets, anchors for the verified substrate, saddle or trapeze surface, level, laser, tape, lift, restraints, isolation pads, and installation tools.
Lay it out
- Mark bracket elevations and structural attachment points.
- Keep supports clear of duct joints and access doors.
- Provide enough wall clearance for insulation, sealing, and maintenance.
Set and support it
- Install brackets into approved structural substrate.
- Level brackets as a set along the wall.
- Add the approved saddle or cross member.
Make the connection
- 1
Verify each bracket and anchor.
- 2
Raise the duct and set it on the support surface.
- 3
Center the duct and maintain wall clearance.
- 4
Install roll or slide restraints where required.
- 5
Adjust supports to final elevation.
- 6
Lock all hardware.
- 7
Release the lift and inspect bracket deflection.
Check the install
- Brackets are level and firmly anchored.
- The wall substrate is structural and approved.
- The duct cannot roll or slide.
- Clearance remains for insulation and service.
- Deflection remains within the approved condition.
Common mistakes
- Anchoring into nonstructural block, drywall, or veneer.
- Using a bracket with insufficient projection or capacity.
- Letting the duct touch the wall.
- Omitting roll restraint on round duct.
Stop and ask
Stop if the wall substrate, anchor, bracket capacity, cantilever load, or restraint detail is not verified.
