Before you start

  • Confirm spin-in size, opening, branch route, and support.
  • Inspect the collar and locking tabs or flange.
  • Check the main for seams and reinforcement.
  • Control the cookie before the final cut.

Tools and materials

Spin-in collar, template, approved cutting tools, hand seamer, clamps, approved fasteners, sealant, and branch support.

Lay it out

  1. Mark the exact opening.
  2. Align the collar to the branch centerline.
  3. Keep the opening clear of weak areas.

Set and support it

  1. Support the main as needed.
  2. Hold the collar square.
  3. Prepare branch support.

Make the connection

    Cut and deburr the opening.

  2. 2

    Insert the spin-in.

  3. 3

    Lock tabs or fasten the flange.

  4. 4

    Square the collar.

  5. 5

    Seal the base.

  6. 6

    Connect and independently support the branch.

Check the install

  • The collar is not cocked.
  • No sharp edge remains.
  • The opening fits the spin-in.
  • The seal is continuous.

Common mistakes

  • Cutting the opening oversized.
  • Leaving tabs partly engaged.
  • Using the branch to straighten the collar.
  • Skipping branch support.

Stop and ask

Stop if the opening is oversized, the spin-in rocks, or the collar cannot be held square.
