Before you start

- Check the main for reinforcement and internal obstructions.
- Verify the splitter or directional element is actually shown.
- Control the cookie before cutting.
Tools and materials
Rectangular splitter tap, layout tools, cutting tools, clamps, fasteners, sealant, splitter or directional element as detailed, branch trapeze, and deburring tools.
Lay it out
- Mark the branch opening and airflow direction.
- Locate the internal splitter as shown.
- Align the branch to the main reference.
Set and support it
- Support the main if needed.
- Clamp the tap square.
- Install branch trapeze.
Make the connection

Cut and deburr the opening.

Set and square the tap.

Clamp the flange.

Fasten and seal the perimeter.

Install the splitter or directional element as detailed.

Verify it is secure and does not obstruct the main.

Connect and support the branch.
Check the install
- The branch is square.
- The internal element is secure.
- No sharp lip remains.
- The main airflow path is not blocked.
Common mistakes
- Adding a splitter that is not shown.
- Installing the internal element backward.
- Leaving a sharp edge in the main.
- Letting the branch load the tap.
Stop and ask
Stop if splitter location is not shown, airflow direction is unclear, or the internal element cannot be installed securely.
