Before you start

  • Confirm the offset dimensions, tap orientation, branch route, and approved fitting.
  • Verify the fitting is not being used to hide a route error.
  • Inspect the throat and offset body.
  • Field-check both inlet and outlet centerlines.

Tools and materials

Offset rectangular tap, layout tools, cutting tools, clamps, fasteners, sealant, branch support, level, and deburring tools.

Lay it out

  1. Mark the opening and offset direction.
  2. Confirm the outlet centerline.
  3. Check fitting clearance.

Set and support it

  1. Support the main and branch independently.
  2. Clamp the fitting square.
  3. Prevent twist.

Make the connection

  1. 1

    Cut and deburr the opening.

  2. 2

Set the correctly fabricated offset tap.

  3. 3

Align the throat to the main and outlet to the branch.

  4. 4

    Clamp the base.

  5. 5

    Fasten evenly.

  6. 6

    Seal the perimeter.

  7. 7

    Connect and support the outlet.

Check the install

  • The fitting has no twist.
  • The offset matches the route.
  • The throat is smooth.
  • The branch is supported.

Common mistakes

  • Using the fitting to hide a bad route.
  • Rotating the fitting to make the branch reach.
  • Fastening before checking both centerlines.
  • Leaving the outlet unsupported.

Stop and ask

Stop if the fitting is being used to hide an unapproved route change, or if the fabricated offset does not match the field dimensions.
