Before you start

  • Confirm pressure class, flange pattern, gasket, bolt set, branch load, and framed opening.
  • Inspect flange flatness and bolt holes.
  • Verify the collar and mating flange are compatible.
  • Support the branch independently.

Tools and materials

Flanged branch collar, gasket, approved bolts, nuts, washers, alignment pins, clamps, branch support, and sealant where specified.

Lay it out

  1. Mark the opening and framed collar position.
  2. Align bolt pattern to the branch.
  3. Keep full access around the flange.

Set and support it

  1. Support both main and branch.
  2. Hold the collar square.
  3. Keep the flange unloaded.

Make the connection

  1. 1

Install or verify the framed opening.

  2. 2

    Set the gasket.

  3. 3

Bring the mating flange into alignment.

  4. 4

    Install bolts loosely.

  5. 5

    Square the flange.

  6. 6

    Tighten in a cross pattern.

  7. 7

Seal as specified and load the branch support.

Check the install

  • Gasket compression is even.
  • All bolts are installed.
  • No frame distortion remains.
  • The branch is independently supported.

Common mistakes

  • Using the wrong bolt pattern.
  • Pulling misaligned flanges together with bolts.
  • Skipping gasket.
  • Loading the collar with branch weight.

Stop and ask

Stop if pressure class, flange pattern, gasket, bolt set, or framed opening is unknown or mismatched.
