Before you start

  • Confirm conical saddle size, main diameter, cone direction, and branch route.
  • Inspect the saddle and cone for distortion.
  • Check seam and joint locations.
  • Control the cookie before the final cut.

Tools and materials

Conical saddle tap, layout tools, cutting tools, clamps, fasteners, sealant, branch hanger, and deburring tools.

Lay it out

  1. Mark the opening and cone orientation.
  2. Keep the fitting off the spiral seam and transverse joint.
  3. Align the branch centerline.

Set and support it

  1. Prevent main rotation.
  2. Clamp the saddle evenly.
  3. Prepare independent branch support.

Make the connection

  1. 1

    Cut and deburr the opening.

  2. 2

Set the conical saddle in the correct direction.

  3. 3

    Clamp it flush.

  4. 4

    Fasten evenly.

  5. 5

    Seal the perimeter.

  6. 6

    Connect and support the branch.

Check the install

  • The cone points correctly.
  • The saddle sits flush.
  • The branch aligns cleanly.
  • The main remains round.

Common mistakes

  • Landing over the spiral seam.
  • Installing the cone backward.
  • Fastening before full contact.
  • Letting the branch rotate the main.

Stop and ask

Stop if the fitting lands over the spiral seam or joint, or if the conical outlet orientation is unclear.
