Before you start

- Support the cookie before the last cut.
Tools and materials
Conical round tap, template, approved cutting tools, clamps, fasteners or welding equipment as detailed, sealant, branch support, and deburring tools.
Lay it out
- Mark the exact opening.
- Center the cone on the branch line.
- Check full flange contact area.
Set and support it
- Support the main as needed.
- Clamp the cone evenly.
- Provide independent round-branch support.
Make the connection

Cut and deburr the exact opening.

Set the conical tap fully into place.

Align the outlet.

Clamp the base evenly.

Fasten or weld as detailed.

Seal the perimeter where required.

Connect and support the branch.
Check the install
- The cone is fully seated.
- No gap remains around the base.
- The outlet is aligned and round.
- The branch carries no load through the tap.
Common mistakes
- Cutting an oversized opening.
- Forcing the cone into a misshaped hole.
- Pulling the branch sideways.
- Using sealant instead of correcting bad fit.
Stop and ask
Stop if the cone is forced into an oversized or misshaped opening, or if the outlet cannot align to the branch.
