SupportFitting and branch supports
Before you start
- Confirm the wye size, inlet direction, branch angle, airflow split, and damper requirements.
- Inspect all three connections for damage and roundness.
- Field-check both outlet routes before lifting.
- Verify the fitting can be independently supported.
Tools and materials
Wye fitting, adjoining duct, approved slip or gasketed components, fasteners, sealant, level, marker, fitting support, branch hangers, and hand tools.
Lay it out
- Mark inlet and both outlet centerlines.
- Set the fitting rotation so both branches leave at the intended angles.
- Check service and damper access.
Set and support it
- Support the wye body independently.
- Install or mark the first support on both outlets.
- Keep the fitting from rolling during the inlet connection.
Make the connection
- 1
Set the supported wye on the inlet centerline.
- 2
Connect and fasten the inlet while holding rotation.
- 3
Connect the first outlet without changing the fitting angle.
- 4
Connect the second outlet.
- 5
Install dampers where shown and keep handles accessible.
- 6
Seal all three joints.
- 7
Load both branch supports and verify the wye remains stable.
Check the install
- The wye is independently supported.
- Both outlets leave at the intended angles.
- No branch is forced.
- All three joints are seated and sealed.
- Damper access remains usable.
Common mistakes
- Rolling the wye to make one branch fit.
- Supporting only the inlet.
- Forcing a branch to a different angle than the fitting.
- Connecting outlets before checking both routes.
Stop and ask
Stop if the wye rotation, branch angles, airflow split, or support arrangement does not match the approved design.
