Before you start
- Confirm register size, grid module, boot neck, throw pattern, damper option, and independent support.
- Verify the boot and branch will not load the T-bar grid.
- Inspect register face, blades, neck, and boot for damage.
- Coordinate tile opening and finished ceiling elevation.
Tools and materials
Lay-in supply register, matching boot, branch duct, approved fasteners and sealant, independent hanger wires or brackets, level, tape, and hand tools.
Lay it out
- Locate the register from the reflected ceiling plan.
- Set the boot and face to the grid module.
- Orient blades for the approved throw pattern.
Set and support it
- Support the boot from structure.
- Keep the grid free of duct weight.
- Support the branch near the boot.
Make the connection

Set and support the boot above the grid.

Connect and seal the branch.

Place the register in the grid.
- 4
Fasten to the boot where required.

Align the face and blades.

Verify the register lifts out or services as designed.
Check the install
- Face is centered and level.
- Boot is independently supported.
- Grid carries no duct weight.
- Neck connection is sealed.
- Blade direction matches the room layout.
Common mistakes
- Resting the boot on the grid.
- Using the branch to hold elevation.
- Installing the wrong grid size.
- Leaving blades aimed at a wall or obstruction.
Stop and ask
Stop if the register size does not match the grid or boot, the grid is carrying weight, or the intended throw pattern is unclear.
