Before you start

  • Use the exact manufacturer system, approved submittal, load table, anchor type, cable size, bracket, locking device, installation tool, and attachment method for the project. Do not mix components or guess a working load.
  • Confirm the Butterfly Trapeze model, duct width, support orientation, direct-fix attachment, load rating, and required locking hardware.
  • Inspect both arms, cables, locks, and contact surfaces.
  • Verify direct-fix points align with approved structure.

Tools and materials

Approved Butterfly Trapeze assembly, correct direct-fix anchors or attachments, cable and locking components, installation tool, level, tape, lift, and gloves.

Lay it out

  1. Mark direct-fix points from the approved support drawing.
  2. Center the trapeze under the duct body.
  3. Keep the assembly clear of flanges, access doors, and dampers.

Set and support it

  1. Install each direct-fix attachment using the approved method.
  2. Assemble and hang the trapeze without twisting the arms.
  3. Level the assembly before loading it.

Make the connection

  1. 1

    Verify both direct-fix points.

  2. 2

Set the duct onto the trapeze contact surfaces.

  3. 3

    Center and balance the duct.

  4. 4

Adjust the system evenly to elevation.

  5. 5

Engage all locks and inspect for full seating.

  6. 6

Secure tails and complete any specified secondary retention.

  7. 7

Release the lift and confirm the assembly remains square.

Check the install

  • The trapeze sits square and centered.
  • Direct-fix attachments are fully installed.
  • The duct body is supported without flange interference.
  • Locks are fully engaged and the cable is undamaged.
  • The assembly remains level after loading.

Common mistakes

  • Direct-fixing into unapproved material.
  • Twisting one arm during adjustment.
  • Loading the support before both attachments are complete.
  • Using the wrong model for the duct width or load.

Stop and ask

Stop if the direct-fix base material, anchor, product model, load, or installation detail is not verified.
